I can’t emphasise enough how important it is to have the right piece of equipment for the activity you plan to do, hence enters the Camelbak Thermobak 3L. With enough space for 3 litres of water plus your phone, keys and wallet – you can rely on the Camelbak Thermobak to keep you hydrated on the go. An ideal pack to take for hiking, hydrating on a long ride or any other high performance activity.
I needed this little piece of kit for the upcoming 2017 APAC Spartan Trifecta weekend being held in Perth. One of the events specifically called for the need of a hydration pack, without a pack I would be unable to race. However like a giddy school kid I had to take it out immediately and do a dry run so to speak.
On an important note it is extremely important before you use any hydration pack for the first time that you clean it out. At the bottom of the reservoir is a quick release which separates the actual bladder from the hose. With this little feature it made it vastly easier to remove from the pack itself. Plus a real benefit of the Camelbak system is that it has a really large opening, big enough to get my hand deep into the reservoir. Of course this is a real bonus if I decide to use some electrolyte & magnesium tablets, to make sure that on longer runs, walks or rides that I get all the ample salts and minerals needed. Needing to flush it out afterwards easily is essential.
I proceeded to take it on a medium sized hike in the northern area of Perth at Yanchep National Park. Generally I normally grab water at a local shop just prior to leaving, but in this instance I forgot. But it was easy to add water right in the car park, the same applies to when I refilled it when I was half way around the Ghost House Walk. It wasn’t really needed, however you can refill without fully removing the bladder reservoir. One of the main reasons for purchasing this specific model of Camelbak hydration pack was the mouthpiece cover, I don’t want to be mucking it up on race day and get a mouthful of mud.
The shoulder straps are quick release, and you can detach them and put them in the stash panel when you’re not using them. Although I won’t be using this feature I do like how you can easily add it to the rest of your equipment with a D-ring attachment for longer journeys. I really like the slender look and fell of how it sits on my back.
Now this is a subject that may divide some people, as the pack doesn’t really have any dedicated pockets for keys or wallet. There are many zip compartments of the hydration pack that will store these items but they aren’t specifically for this use. In the rear of the pack is a large pocket, which most ideal for holding a map or something flat.
If you’re looking for a hydration pack that goes hand-in-hand with an active lifestyle, then look no further than the Camelbak Thermobak.
Where can I get one?
I was able to pick mine up at a great adventure and outdoor equipment site Snowys. They have a great range of equipment with prices that beat most retails shops obviously. As standard like many online retails shops delivery is free is purchasing over a specific amount, $80 for Snowys. https://www.snowys.com.au/thermobak-3l-military-hydration-pack-black
